Small cyst turn into complex ovarian cyst

I knew I had a small cyst on my right ovary since last summer. I was having increasing pain so my obgyn ordered another ultrasound last month and it has tripled in size and she said its a “complex” cyst instead of the simple cyst it was before.

She said it’s filled with blood but there is no blood flow to it so she’s pretty sure it’s not a tumor. It does still cause me pain around my period or when I am ovulating. I’m having another ultrasound in 2 weeks and she said we’ll then discuss options (surgery vs birth control). Here’s my dilemma.

We have been TTC for 1 year next month. We are obviously having our own difficulties getting pregnant and birth control will throw a wrench in those plans. She said the pill will most likely only reduce the size of it so it wouldn’t cause me pain or run the risk of rupturing. My other option is surgery which I think I am leaning towards. Get it gone and forget about it.

What are your thoughts? Did you have any complications? Did your cyst come back?

I’m almost 21 years old. I have a 4.8CM COMPLEX left ovarian cyst. They said it’s “complex” and I’m not really for sure what this means? I had to go to the ER this past Saturday from bleeding over 2 weeks.

After I finished period, I started BC last sunday and was passing huge clots/ tons of blood so was hospitalized and then sonogram determined this complex cyst. I go to gyn on Thursday so I’m assuming he will do another sonogram and probably biopsy?

How do they go about doing a biopsy on an ovarian cyst? How do they remove it? Birth control or surgery? Is it just a cyst or “complex” make it something more severe (ie tumor…benign?) I’m so confused and won’t know till Thursday.

By the way I have very irregular periods. Probably caused by this. Before 2 weeks ago, my last period was march 2006.
